Since the first release of Alma, Ex Libris, integrated library system has recognized the value of enabling customers to work in their native language. As a result, Ex Libris has made major efforts to accommodate many languages across its product offerings.
Ex Libris recently added Arabic to the growing list of languages available for Alma, library management system and Primo training kits. German, French, Spanish, Polish, Chinese (simplified and traditional), and many other languages are supported for training materials, the user interface, and online help for Alma, Primo library discovery service, and Leganto list management system. These comprehensive internationalization efforts are key to improving the user experience. As an example, there are roughly 70,000 Alma user interface labels that are translated. To facilitate a better learning experience, video tutorials include translated subtitles and localized voice narration. The context-sensitive “help for this page” button from within the product interface directs users to the relevant multilingual online help documentation for Alma, Primo, and Leganto.
Keeping translated content current and maintaining a high level of quality is an ongoing commitment. To keep up with product release schedules, translations are updated on a regular basis. Ex Libris works with several translation companies and has several partnerships with customers who help with the translation process to ensure accurate and high-quality localized content. For some languages, Ex Libris collaborates with regional customer user groups that advise on the optimal translation. This ensures that translations are not only accurate but also relevant and appropriate for the local audience.
