In a move to enhance the student digital experience, University College London (UCL) recently revamped its mobile campusM app. One of campusM’s earliest adopters in 2012, in 2022 UCL reevaluated and repositioned the app to better serve its student body.
In 2020, David Goddard assumed the role of Head of Digital Student Experience at UCL and embarked on a thorough assessment of the existing app. Recognizing its untapped potential, Goddard and his team initiated a comprehensive overhaul to enable the app to simplify the student experience.
The outcome of their efforts materialized in 2022 with the launch of ‘UCL Go,’ the rebranded and upgraded version of the app, boasting a fresh vision, a redesigned interface, and enhanced functionality. Using a targeted and ongoing marketing campaign, UCL aims to encourage students to actively engage with the app and maximize its benefits.
UCL’s commitment to leveraging technology to optimize the student journey reflects its dedication to providing a seamless and efficient digital experience for its students:
“It’s a highly complex experience for students at university,” says Goddard. “We layer on lots of different services and systems that they have to interact with. Simplifying that experience is our fundamental premise for using campusM. It’s a bewildering set of opportunities they have, and the question that we’re trying to solve with the app is: How can we make it easier for them to make the most of these opportunities?”
